Thomas Lanter – b.1758 – Thomas and his brother Jacob both served in the Confederate and Revolutionary War. Thomas moved to Montgomery County, Kentucky, then to Madison County, Kentucky, where he was living in 1833 and applied for a Revolutionary War Pension. In his application, he state that he volunteered as a minuteman about the 1st of October 1775. He served under Captain Lawrence Tolliver and Colonel Stevens. His revolutionary War Pension Number is: S31199
Jacob Lanter – b.1762 –Jacob was a Revolutionary War Veteran in the Militia of the State of Virginia as a private. He served in 1778 for three months under Captain May Burton and Colonel Thomas Matthews. Then he served again in 1781 for three months in the place of his brother in law, Henry Clayton, who was drafted under Captain George Waughs and Colonel Ennis, under General Lawson, of the State of Virginia. On this tour of duty, he marched to Gloucester, Virginia, most of the time guarding prisoners at Fredericks burg, Virginia. Jacob was ages 15 to 18 during this time in the service, serving three months at a time.
Nicholas Milner –b.1762- (Larkin Lanters father in law) Nicholas was a Revolutionary War Veteran, serving in the capacity of a private, in the Militia of the State of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in Washington County, Pennsylvania in the year 1778 serving under Captain Jesse Pigman guarding the Frontier between the years 1778 - 1781. Nicholas applied for a pension on Mar 11, 1833.
Peter Lanter –b.1766 – (Jacob’s Brother), Peter served under Captain Spencer and Colonel Scott in the Revolutionary War. (Five years on the Virginia Continental Line, 5th & 7th Continental Line Regiments).
Thomas Lanter – b.1777 – (son of Thomas, Jacob’s brother), He was a soldier in the War of 1812, under Colonel Dick Johnson.
Wyatt Lanter - b.1788 - (Jacobs son) was killed in the War of 1812. Wyatt was one of the "participants" in Dudley's Defeat during the relief of the seige of Ft Maumee (near present day Toledo). The story is that Gen Wm Harrison (later president) ordered Dudley and his KY militia to seize a battery of British cannons, a task they accomplished but after spiking the guns the "victorious" militia ran headlong after the retreating British and ran into a British/Indian ambush in which most were killed or captured. Apparently Wyatt was one of the former.
Larkin Lanter – b.1796 - (Jacobs son) Larkin was in the War of 1812, serving in the 22nd Regiment of the Kentucky Volunteer Mounted Infantry. Larkin's mounted militia unit raided through Canada and got as far as York (now Toronto) before retreating. He received two different Land Warrants from the Government for his military services. One grant was 40 acres, the other was 120 acres. The land is four miles west of Colemansville, Kentucky.
John L Lanter, - b.1800 - John Lanter (son of Jacob) was granted 120 acres of land by President James Buchanan, August 10, 1860 for his service in the War of 1812.
Isaac Newton Lanter – b.1822 – (son of Larkin) Issac was a Civil War Veteran serving on the side of the Union in the 7th Volunteer Kentucky Calvary, Company D. He stood 5'11", blue eyes, red hair.
Davis Lanter,- b.1824 –(son of Thomas Lanter, 1777) In 1844 Davis Lanter became a teamster in the Quartermaster Department at Fort Leavenworth. He volunteered in the Mexican War and served under General Doniphan as a teamster until the close of the War in 1851. He was discharged in California, and returned by Way of the Isthmus. From 1859 He was a wagon master until 1861. He then raised a Company for the Confederate Army, known as Company C, First Missouri Calvary, Colonel Gates, Commanding. He led his Company at Pea Ridge, Corinnth, and Post Gibson, opposed General Sherman on his march to the Sea. On April 9, 1865, he was taken prisoner, but was exchanged in May.
Francis M Lanter – b.1826 - Francis enlisted on Sep 1862, in Blount County, Tennessee as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company D, 1st Walker's Battalion, Thomas Legion, North Carolina Troops. This Regiment became Company I, 1st Carter's Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry about Nov 1862. Francis resigned his commission Mar 2, 1865.

Austin Andrew Lanter – b.1845 - Served in Company E, 1st Battalion, Virginia Infantry,(Irish Battalion), under General Lee, 1865. Upon Lee's surrender, Austin and his confederate soldier friends were given paroles, and then without guns and horses, were forced to walk home from the war. Austin says it took him over 6 months to get home. In 1906, Austin received a Disability War Pension.

John S Lanter - b.1898 - SGT, US Army, 1917-1919 John S. Lanter was serving as a sergeant in "Hortons Company B, when wounded in WW1, during the Argonne Forest Battle of 1918. Following the war, he returned to Horton and in the early 1920's on reorganization of th 35th Division, was appointed a Captain and first commanding Officer of Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery. He had been a patient at the Veterans Hospital, Hot Springs, S. Dakota, for 30 years as the result of wounds and efects of mustard gas sustained in WW1.

Edward Louis Lanter – b.1921- Edward Louis Lanter served in World War 11 in the United States Army. He was inducted, August 27, 1942 at the age of 21. He was in the 550th Battalion Headquarters Division. The 17th merged with the 82nd, which later became the 194th Glider Infantry. He was sent to Africa, April 21, 1944, and May 10, 1944. He was in Africa, Sicily, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, England, and Italy. He single handedly captured 16 German, took them as prisoners, and never took recognition by turning in his name for the capture. While in France, on August 14, 1944, he was one of five men in a glider that crashed. He was the only survivor. He was discharged on Sept 22, 1945.
